Separate observation from control
A tracker can display a record of an asset without controlling it. For a cold wallet, use your own wallet interface or records to confirm the balance and enter the quantity manually. The tracker should never need the recovery phrase or private key; those credentials can authorize control of funds.
Manual entry avoids granting an app wallet permissions, but it also means the tracker cannot notice transfers on its own. Reconcile the displayed quantity after you send or receive BTC.
Record the details needed for an overview
For a basic value estimate, the quantity and a reference price are enough. To compare estimated value with what you paid, also keep purchase costs and known fees. For several cold-wallet addresses, either record each balance separately or add them only after you have checked that you are not counting the same funds twice.
Understand the trade-off
An unconnected tracker cannot verify the blockchain balance or infer a transaction history from your wallet. That is the privacy and control trade-off: fewer account permissions and less synchronization, with more responsibility to keep your own record current.
Common questions
Should I type my recovery phrase into a tracker?
No. A recovery phrase or private key should not be entered into portfolio-tracking software.
