What this calculator measures
Apply a transparent quantity-and-price calculation to an asset using your own reference prices. This result depends on the figures you enter and is for information only, not financial, investment, tax or legal advice.
Formula
Cost basis = quantity × purchase price + known fees. Current value = quantity × current reference price. Estimated profit or loss = current value − cost basis.
Worked example
Ten units bought at £100 each with no fees have a £1,000 cost basis. At a £125 reference price, their estimated value is £1,250 and the difference is £250.
Understand the limits
Fees: The entered known purchase fees are included in cost basis. Sell-side fees, spread, taxes and execution costs are not included.
Currency: choose GBP, USD or EUR and enter every cash amount and price in that same currency. The selector formats the results; it does not convert mixed-currency inputs.
Reference prices are supplied by you, not fetched as live quotes. Market conditions can affect an actual transaction. These simplified estimates do not determine the accounting method or tax treatment that applies to you.
