What this calculator measures

Compare what a BTC position cost with its estimated value at a price you provide. This result depends on the figures you enter and is for information only, not financial, investment, tax or legal advice.

Formula

Cost basis = BTC amount × purchase price + known fees. Current value = BTC amount × current reference price. Estimated profit or loss = current value − cost basis.

Worked example

For 0.5 BTC bought at £40,000 with £50 of fees and a £50,000 reference price, estimated value is £25,000, cost basis is £20,050 and the difference is £4,950 before tax or any other costs.

Understand the limits

Fees: The entered known purchase fees are included in cost basis. Sell-side fees, spread, taxes and execution costs are not included.

Currency: choose GBP, USD or EUR and enter every cash amount and price in that same currency. The selector formats the results; it does not convert mixed-currency inputs.

Reference prices are supplied by you, not fetched as live quotes. Market conditions can affect an actual transaction. These simplified estimates do not determine the accounting method or tax treatment that applies to you.
